Description
London-based duo BOB VYLAN stand out for their unique setup and dynamic presence. Comprised of vocalist Bobby and drummer Bobbie, the band brings a striking balance of energy—one a powerful voice and crowd leader, the other a steady force behind the drums. Their music embodies both chaos and calm, and they are known for their mosh pits and the sense of community that follows with "pit hugs." Constantly evolving, their sound crosses genres, blending elements of rock, rap, punk, and dance, challenging traditional boundaries and uniting diverse subcultures.
Their independent spirit led them to create their own label, Ghost Theatre, allowing them to release music free from the constraints of major labels. This bold approach saw their 2022 album Bob Vylan Presents The Price Of Life climb to number 18 on the UK album charts, reaching number 4 in the physical charts and number 3 in the independent charts. Remarkably, it was the first time in history that a fully self-produced, recorded, and mixed album released on a band’s independent label reached the UK top 20. The album also won the 2022 Kerrang! ‘Best Album’ award and earned the duo their first MOBO award in the new ‘Alternative’ category. With high-profile fans like Iggy Pop and Craig Charles on 6Music, BOB VYLAN have made their mark, performing live on the BBC at Glastonbury and gracing magazine covers like Kerrang!, Hardbeat, and Gigwise, while receiving coverage from outlets including The Guardian and Rolling Stone Magazine.
Their latest single, "The Delicate Nature," featuring Laurie Vincent from SoftPlay, was released in late 2022 and received extensive airplay on Radio 1, 6Music, Radio X, Kerrang! Radio, and more.
Reflecting on their latest album, Bobby describes it as a space to explore various sides of their personalities. “This project has allowed us the space to showcase different sides of our personalities. We don’t want to give the same thing over and over again, so we’re tackling topics in a different way this time. It’s serious and funny, it’s communal and obnoxious, it’s many things at any given time, and it’s a concept project. It explores the idea of paying your way through life and the expense of living in a society that places money above all else. It explores the places we’ve come from and the extremes we’ve seen people go to in order to survive. It also looks at the nuances around money in our society, the less obvious connections, like the world of advertising and art having to align with advertisers’ values in order to be given a platform, as well as the price of healthy eating, the cost of technology not necessarily on our pockets but on our lives.”
Community is central to BOB VYLAN, and their live performances reflect that ethos. With each show beginning with a moment of meditation and ending in a group hug, they offer a space for connection and expression, delivering their message in a way they believe has been missing from the music scene.
After embarking on their first headline tour in 2021, BOB VYLAN have since sold out venues across the UK, including a packed show at London’s Electric Ballroom in December 2022. They’ve played major festivals like Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds, Pukkelpop (Belgium), and Riot Fest (US), and have toured with acts like Amyl & The Sniffers and Biffy Clyro. With more live dates set for 2023, including a European tour supporting grandson, a US headline tour in 2024, and festival appearances at Download, Boardmasters, 2000trees, Green Man, and Latitude, BOB VYLAN are showing no signs of slowing down.
