From the year of its premiere, 1994, Sónar has annually been making Barcelona that confluence point: lovers, creators, and professionals in music arrive from every part of the world to the place, because its innovative format, plural space, and unbridled atmosphere have transformed the Fira into one great attraction. As its name indicates, Sónar presents and amplifies the musical landscape of today and tomorrow, showcasing some of the most relevant artistic creations of this century while giving voice and future opportunities to international artists. This commitment to innovation makes Sónar the testing ground where new and emerging trends merge, relating performance, music, science, and information technology.
In the past three decades, Sónar has redefined what a music festival is over more than 100 editions organized around the world. It broke down barriers by connecting diverse audiences from diverse musical genres and disciplines in creation. Innovation and exploration are represented not only in the music but also in avant-garde visual arts, innovative multimedia installations, and debates about the future of technology in culture and society.
But Sónar is much more than its flagship event in Barcelona; it has expanded to gain global relevance through satellite events and collaborations ranging from Reykjavik to Istanbul, from Hong Kong to São Paulo. Each event interprets Sónar's central philosophy into the local context: in combining international and local artists, it provides unique experiences that can be very meaningful to different audiences.
