So: Uptown Festival. My first time on Blackheath since bonfire night 1996, however I drive past it quite often as a SE-London resident.
London has a long history of weekend- or day festivals and I have fond memories of days out in Finsbury Park, Clapham Common, Victoria park, Somerset House, Strawberry Hill etc etc.
These are events and festivals that let you experience the full festival vibe, without having to prepare for camping, buying provisions for a long weekend, travel to a remote field in the UK and sleep uncomfortable (mostly). Especially as a family (and honestly if you’re a bit older) I love these day-festivals.
The advertised line up is promising, quite a few names from “back in the day” and even for a seasoned concert goer for over 40 years, i still never saw Boy George live.
Entry to the site was easy and the security was actually quite nice, not big drama here, this was also the vibe on the site. Staff and security were actually nice and helpful.
This was a real family affair (and very family friendly) with quite a few fairground rides. They looked attractive and even I felt like going on some of them 🙂 (I didn’t).
The selection of high quality food and drink on the festival site was amazing. Of course the downside was that I could not buy anything, because these vendors are part of the NWO and don’t accept our legal tender ofcash. Card payments only – everywhere 🙁 . Don’t these people know what and whom they are supporting by implementing this cash-less society. Cash is King !! – – not at this (and other) festivals it seems.
For the music I was a bit sad to see that there were not many bands, or indeed musicians. Personally I don’t really like to “watch” DJs and MCs. Find it boring. Give me a musician any time over backing tracks. Might be a generational thing, but I do like live music.
Luckily Boy George brought a full band of musicians and it was worth the wait. He’s a great singer and performer and the sound of a live band was far superior than any act beforehand who opted for playback. George entertained with a mix of great British songs and of course his Culture Club classics.
I hope Uptown will return in 2026, and hopefully I could pay for things with cash and see some more real music.
