After a decade away from the spotlight of the world’s main stages, Basement Jaxx are set to bring their legendary, euphoric live experience back to fans. The iconic duo will headline South Facing Festival on Saturday, 23rd August, promising an unforgettable night of energy, music, and spectacle.
While many electronic artists have leaned heavily into cutting-edge technology to enhance their performances, Basement Jaxx have always taken a different approach. Their shows are a celebration of maximalism, blending a dizzying mix of singers, MCs, musicians, and entire troupes of dancers. Every performance transforms the stage into a vibrant carnival, radiating life-affirming energy.
“After a few years DJing around the globe, it’ll be great to return to the live stage and the Live Show Experience,” shared Felix Buxton, one half of the duo. “To connect to people with life-affirming energy and give people a great time.”
Starting in 1994 with a series of underground EPs on their Atlantic Jaxx label, Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe quickly became a fixture in London’s underground scene. Their distinctive blend of house and garage infused with punk attitude and global influences captured the hearts of many. By 1999, their debut album Remedy hit the charts, delivering unforgettable hits like Red Alert, Rendez Vu, and Jump & Shout.
Their 2001 follow-up album, Rooty, propelled them even further into the mainstream. Tracks like Where’s Your Head At became evergreen anthems, transcending generations and genres alike.
From the start, Basement Jaxx earned a reputation for their dynamic live shows, which grew into spectacular festival experiences. They have graced the stages of Coachella and Glastonbury, including a headline set on the Pyramid Stage in 2005—the same year they won a Grammy for Best Electronic Album.
Reflecting on their enduring appeal, Felix said, “It’s great our hits are still very much alive with younger generations. We connect across the age range—and it’ll be great to pop in a couple of bangers from our forthcoming album too.”
Over the past decade, the duo has remained festival favourites, headlining from behind the decks. But now, they’re ready to return to the forefront with their full technicolour live show.
“It feels like 2025 is the beginning of a new era for many, and I think that’s probably true for Basement Jaxx too,” Felix added.
Fans at South Facing Festival can expect a kaleidoscopic, high-energy performance filled with beloved classics and a sneak peek of what’s next for Basement Jaxx. The countdown to their triumphant return begins.
