*******WOMAD festival announces hiatus, new location***********
It means World of Music, Arts, and Dance and unites artists into the common denominator of an internationally famous festival. Basically, WOMAD celebrates various forms of music, arts, and dance found in cultures.
As an organization, WOMAD works through its channels for the same aim: to inspire, educate, and raise awareness about the wealth and possibilities that exist in multicultural societies. Be it festivals, performances, recordings, or educational initiatives, WOMAD seeks to captivate and enlighten its audience.
At WOMAD, it's almost an overwhelming tapestry of experience that includes engaging workshops in dance and instruments with sublime musicians, incisive poetry readings, stimulating discussions, and lively debates. Against a kaleidoscopic tapestry of color and energy, guests can dance under the stars into the wee hours to the catching cadence of world music or retire in the World of Wellbeing, renewed, under the trees in the arboretum.
But beyond the aural and visual feast, WOMAD is also a gastronomic journey of scrumptious food from across the world, rising above the mundane fare available at festivals. The audiences get to see live food demonstrations by participating artists, who concoct mouth-watering delicacies from their cultural heritage, peppered with anecdotes and music, adding to the experience. And, of course, tasting these creations is an experience in itself.
Past performers of the festival have been an impressive list, covering luminaries from Angelique Kidjo to The Flaming Lips, through Lianne La Havas, Ziggy Marley, Anna Calvi, Orbital, Amadou & Mariam, Camille, and Django Django-just a few among them.
