Description
Y Not Festival, an annual music extravaganza, has been a beloved fixture in Pikehall, Derbyshire, United Kingdom since its humble beginnings in 2005. The brainchild of Ralph Broadbent, it started as a cozy house party for 120 guests, playfully dubbed the Big Gin Festival, paying homage to its proximity to Biggin in the Peak District. The festival's main stage, known as The Big Gin Stage, bears testament to its roots.
After its inaugural success, the event blossomed into the Y Not Festival, officially opening its gates to the public in 2006. By 2007, it found its permanent home in Pikehall, Derbyshire, where it continues to thrive to this day.
Throughout its journey, Y Not Festival has garnered numerous awards and accolades, including Best Small Festival in 2012 and accolades for its grassroots initiatives and impeccable facilities. In 2016, the festival underwent a change in ownership, transitioning to Global Radio's festival division, Broadwick Live. However, in 2019, it returned to the hands of its original owners.
The festival faced an unexpected hiatus in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic but made a triumphant return in 2022 as an independent event. In November 2022, exciting news emerged as Superstruct Entertainment, a prominent UK-based company, acquired a majority stake in Y Not Festival, heralding a new chapter in its storied history.
